Through a combination of our internal efforts and aggressive
in-licensing, Archemix has consolidated the leading worldwide
intellectual property position for aptamer therapeutics. We own
or have licensed exclusive rights to over 200 issued patents and
approximately 250 pending patent applications pertaining
to the discovery and development
of aptamers and their role in treating disease.
ISIS Pharmaceuticals granted Archemix an exclusive license to chemistry patent rights to discover, develop and commercialize products containing aptamers. In addition, SomaLogic granted Archemix non-exclusive rights to their own and licensed intellectual property for the development and commercialization of aptamer therapeutics and specified nontherapeutic applications of aptamers including target validation.
We actively seek to protect our proprietary technology that we consider important to aptamer therapeutics
in the United States and other key pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturing markets. In this regard,
we have focused on patents, patent applications and other intellectual property covering:
- fundamental aspects of the identification, optimization, and structure of aptamers and their uses as
therapeutics;
- chemical modifications to aptamers that improve their suitability for therapeutic uses; and
-
aptamers directed to specific targets and as treatments for particular diseases.
